Samsung Galaxy Grand Neo likely to be launched in India for Rs 19,000: specifications, features and comparison

Samsung-Galaxy-Grand-Neo
Samsung’s tendency to expand its range till the point of saturation is nothing new, so why spare the Grand range when there’s a chance to squeeze in a new phone? As it happens, Samsung has come up with another model, called Galaxy Grand Neo, ready to be positioned above last year’s Galaxy Grand but below the recently launched Galaxy Grand 2. Word on the street suggests it would be launched in India sometime this week for Rs 19,000.
On the specification front, it gets a 5-inch WVGA (800×480 pixels) screen, a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It gets a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front facing secondary camera. It’s likely to carry a price tag of Rs 19,000, which also puts it uncomfortably close to the Galaxy Grand and the newly launched Galaxy Grand 2. Let’s have a look and see if the proximity is just in the price or do the specs do any justice:
The Galaxy Grand 2 sits on the top of the Grand range of phones in Samsung’s line-up, which justifies the better specs. It features a 5.25-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display with a pixel density of 280ppi in comparison to Galaxy Grand Neo and Galaxy Grand’s 5-inch WVGA (480×800 pixels) screen with a lower pixel density of 186ppi . A quad-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, along with 1.5GB of RAM does duty in the Galaxy Grand 2, while the Neo too gets a quad-core processor, a Cortex A7, and 1GB of RAM but the Grand makes do with a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with the same amount of RAM as the Galaxy Grand Neo.
Moving on to the photography credentials, the Galaxy Grand 2 as well as the Galaxy Grand sport an LED flash equipped 8-megapixel primary camera with the ability to shoot full-HD 30fps videos, and a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera. In comparison, the Galaxy Grand Neo only offers a 5-megapixel rear snapper and a meager 0.3-megapixel front facing unit, which can shoot 30fps 720p videos.
In the battery department, the Galaxy Grand 2′s 2,600mAh battery is bigger than what the Galaxy Grand Neo and Galaxy Grand get, a 2,100mAh unit. All three phones run on Android Jelly Bean, but while the Galaxy Grand 2 gets the newer 4.3 Jelly Bean version, the Galaxy Grand Neo and Galaxy Grand make do with 4.2 Jelly Bean.
The Galaxy Grand retails for around Rs 16,500 at the moment and the Galaxy Grand 2 has been around for about a month, priced at Rs 22,500. At an expected price of Rs 19,000, On paper, if you have a budget of under Rs 20,000, the Galaxy Grand Neo is a better product than the Galaxy Grand. But if you can stretch your budget by a bit, we would recommend the Galaxy Grand 2 over the Galaxy Grand Neo.
